Kindergarten Mother's Day cards
Kindergartner's have been creating a lot of Eric Carle inspired art lately, since it is the theme for their Moving on Ceremony in June, so we used Carle's painted paper method to create Mother's Day cards.
We have been creating a collection of painted paper the past few weeks that we will use for their graduation decoration, so I used some of their painted paper for their cards.
Then, they used different circle patterns to cut 3 big circles, 3 medium circles, and 3 small circles, to glue together in size order to create 3 flowers. The last step was to add a button in the middle and some leaves with green marker. Here are the final results:
8th Grade Lichtenstein Pop-Art portraits
8th graders are going to have a pop-art inspired Middle-School graduation, so our final art project were these Lichtenstein inspired pop-art portraits. I printed each of their yearbook pages on a full page in black and white (perks of being in charge of yearbook), and they created a grid in order to draw themselves accurately. They used a think black marker to outline all of their main features in order to simplify all the detail in their faces. Then, they drew themselves and colored it in with marker.

Today in Nursery, each student got to practice cutting. We talked about what scissors are used for, how to be careful, and practiced holding them. Then, each student got a piece of yellow paper and cut freely, making all different shapes. They glued together their cut-outs to make a piece of abstract art. I am super impressed with their cutting skills, they all did a really great job!
Pre-K Mother's Day projects
In Pre-K, students made 2 pieces of art for their moms.
First, they cut 9 hearts out of different colored paper. Their cutting has really improved, at the beginning of the year many of them didn't know how to hold the scissors properly, and now they are heart cutting experts. Then, they used white oil pastels to draw clouds on light blue paper. They glued tehir hearts in a bunch to look like heart-shaped balloons. They used black crayon to draw the strings. In the card, they all wrote beautiful messages about why they love their moms.
The second activity we did was to make hearts inspired by the Brazilian pop-artist Romero Britto.
Students drew the hearts with black crayons and decorated the inside with line or dot patterns. Then, they used liquid watercolor to paint.
Here are the Mother's Day art projects altogether...
Japanese Cherry Blossoms
6th graders painted Japanese Cherry blossoms on the front of their Mother's Day cards using watercolor and tempera paint.
6th grade final results:
6th graders learned about the life of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh, and applied his painting style and technique in a re-creation of his crow field painting.
VAN GOGH ORIGINAL:
6TH GRADE FINAL RESULTS:
This painting was all about layering. First, we used watercolor to paint the sky, pathway and grass. Then, we layers tempera into the watercolor to add texture. The final details were the moon, and of course the crows, in a Van Gogh style painting technique.
