Dominican Artists Art Exhibit

The 2016 Art Exhibit was a great success! Every student from Nido (age 1) to 8th grade contributed their art in our exhibit. Each grade was inspired by a different artist and created individual paintings, group murals or sculptures to represent their Dominican artist. Visitors also had fun signing the chalkboard, creating drawings or coloring pages based on the artists, and sketching out the art that they saw in the exhibit. The 7th and 8th graders had a surprise visit by 2 of their artists, Pote Leche and Angurria, who came to class to talk to students and saw the art that was based on them.

Pre-K Mother's Day projects

In Pre-K, students made 2 pieces of art for their moms.

First, they cut 9 hearts out of different colored paper. Their cutting has really improved, at the beginning of the year many of them didn't know how to hold the scissors properly, and now they are heart cutting experts. Then, they used white oil pastels to draw clouds on light blue paper. They glued tehir hearts in a bunch to look like heart-shaped balloons. They used black crayon to draw the strings. In the card, they all wrote beautiful messages about why they love their moms.

The second activity we did was to make hearts inspired by the Brazilian pop-artist Romero Britto.

Students drew the hearts with black crayons and decorated the inside with line or dot patterns. Then, they used liquid watercolor to paint.

Here are the Mother's Day art projects altogether...

Pre-K recycled material rainbows

In Pre-K, we organized colors in the rainbow order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, and glued together all of the different recycled objects: marker caps, ripped paper, ribbon, beads, felt pieces, etc., in the shape of a rainbow.
