Red Lion Elementary School Mural

Red Lion Elementary students from grades 1-5 worked together to create this beautiful mural. We brainstormed different elements that we felt were important to our school: Philadelphia's skyline and the Liberty Bell, science, math, Math Kangaroo (an activity our school has been proud to host and participate in for years), art, music, geography, language (nearly all of our lovely RLES students speak at least 2 languages), and of course... reading! The open book is the first page of "Charlotte's Web", a book that every 2nd grader reads at the beginning of the year with Mr. Jay, and the quote coming out of the book reads, "One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world” by Malala Yousafzai

We are so proud of this beautiful mural, and even more proud of our students who are changing the world everyday!

Matilda Mural

Our mural was obviously inspired by Matilda, as was every other project at camp this summer. We learned about and collected a lot of beautiful Quentin Blake illustrations. Quentin Blake was Roald Dahl's go to illustrator and has a beautiful sketch like illustrative style. We put together our mural based on his sketches. It is now hanging in the hallway at Allens Lane Art Center.

Dominican Artists Art Exhibit

The 2016 Art Exhibit was a great success! Every student from Nido (age 1) to 8th grade contributed their art in our exhibit. Each grade was inspired by a different artist and created individual paintings, group murals or sculptures to represent their Dominican artist. Visitors also had fun signing the chalkboard, creating drawings or coloring pages based on the artists, and sketching out the art that they saw in the exhibit. The 7th and 8th graders had a surprise visit by 2 of their artists, Pote Leche and Angurria, who came to class to talk to students and saw the art that was based on them.
