Nursery: Secondary Colors and Lines

This month in art, Nursery students have been learning about the secondary colors. They read the amazing book "Mouse Paint" which explained how the primary colors can make the secondary colors.

Then, they used primary colors to paint different animals in secondary colors:

We also began learning about line types: straight, curvy and zig-zag. They drew lines and then re-created secondary colors with the primary colors to fill in the space between their lines.

Minecraft Selfies!

Middle School students started 2015 off with a fun self portrait. They used large grid paper to create a "selfie" in Minecraft style. Each square had to be its own solid color; there couldn't be more than one color per square. They had fun and I think they turned out awesome.

Marshmallow Straw houses!

Pre-Kinder and Kindergartners had a lot of fun with their materials in art class lately. They used straws and marshmallows to create a 3D structure. First, they made their own shapes, then combined theirs with the people next to them to expand and expand in size and detail.

Kindergarten fruit still life

Kindergartner's have been improving their drawing skills lately. We have been using shapes to practice drawing, and they have been using less stick figures and lines to express themselves through drawing. In art class, we read about different shapes and different fruits, then they chose a fruit to draw and paint. They observed the shape, size and color of the fruit before drawing.

HS Elective one point perspective

High-School students learned the basics behind one-point perspective, and put it to life by drawing their own photographs.

The final project for the HS elective was to use their drawing skills they learned in the class and create an abstract correlating one of our major projects into the theme: portraits, object details or perspective.

7th Grade Safari Silhouettes

7th graders are currently learning about Africa in Geography with Ms. Jones, so we are focusing on African culture and art this unit in art class. Our first piece of African art is a safari style silhouette. We looked at some examples of African safari photographs, especially the beautiful sunset silhouettes...

We created an abstract version of this silhouette style by first painting a background of a safari animals fur.

Then, they drew and cut out a silhouette on contrasting colored paper.
