6th graders learned about impressionist and post-impressionist art, and created their own life-size mural of Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." They used the pointillism (dotted) painting technique to fill out their part of the painting. I created a grid format for them to use, and they mixed their own colors and painted square by square. The students that had easy squares were able to paint 2, since there were more squares than students. I am so proud of the 6th graders, this painting is currently hanging in the 3rd floor hallway and it brings so much beauty to its space. Make sure to come check it out! It was very satisfying to put it altogether.

African Tribal Masks
7th graders are continuing on with their African unit in both art and Geography. First, we created Safari Silhouettes, and this week we created African Tribal Masks. To make the masks, they had to choose 2 colors of contrasting construction paper, and cut the lighter color in half. They cut out shapes for the eyes, nose, mouth, tribal style details and the shape of the face. Every teeny-tiny piece of paper that got cut out had to be guarded and saved (and not accidentally cut into). Then, they glued the cut-outs onto the darker colored paper. This was definitely a test to their cutting skills and patience, but the masks turned out unique and exotic.

Making Valentine's with Nursery
The students in Nursery created 2 Valentine's Day crafts.
First, they used heart shaped sponges to paint a heart pattern on large pink paper.
I cut the paper into 3 large hearts when it dried and they added more detail by painting sparkles onto it.
There were 3 large hearts in the end that say Happy Valentine's Day!
Students also created individual Valentine's cards to take home to the people that they love most. They painted sparkles onto heart shaped paper, then glued on more hearts and beads.

Happy Valentines Day!
Pre-schoolers have been working hard to create beautiful valentines. They cut out their own hearts and used miscellaneous pink and red objects to glue together and make these adorable cards. Some groups added paint for a final touch.
Using shapes to make people
Pre-K and Kinder have been working hard to improve their drawings skills using shapes. First, they practiced drawing people using different shapes to fill out their body parts instead of the classic "stick figure." Then, they used cut out shapes to glue together a family.
