Contour drawing

Our first day of elective was a learning experience. We started with blind contour drawings. We were not allowed to look down at out paper at all as we used line drawings to draw the person across from us (there ended up being a lot of noses right on top of eyeballs). Then, we learned the proportions of the head and tried to get more precise with our partner drawings (we could look down this time). After that, we practiced full body contour gesture drawings by watching a model pose for 3 minutes at a time.

Zentangles

The 5th and 6th graders are learning how to meditate through art. This week, they used the number 5 or 6 to create their own zentangles; a type of doodling that promotes tranquility and meditation. They used black pen or marker only and filled in each space with a repetitive doodle style drawing.

Lichtenstein

This week the 7th and 8th graders learned about pop art and the wonderful artist Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein's flawless work was inspired by pop culture's advertisements and comic books. They applied Lichtenstein's style to their own work which will become the front page of their portfolios this school year.
